Day12 Something you dont leave the house without
KIDS! even a trip to the grocery store has seven or eight or ten kids saying I wanna go! I wanna go! sometimes I take this one or that one. or two or three. or none. Depends on the day. Depends on where I am headed and what my intended purpose is when I get there. I took the boys shoe shopping last weekend and the next time I suggest such a thing I hope someone will suggest that a root canal would be more fun. the girls shopping are all about gimme gimme gimme. i want i want i want. and ohhh how bout this? can we have this? whyyyyyy? the boys were all about Im hungry. are we done yet? can we go now? I want to go home. we arent ever going to get home! we are stuck in here forever! I dont like lunch, sulk I dont like those shoes, sulk. so as one can imagine I prefer to go alone. but usually when I leave the house its on a mission that involves kids. eye doctor. dentist. specialist appt. philly appt. regular doctor. school event. school. so the one thing I take with me most often is kids. 1 or 2 or 6 or 10 just depends on the day and the activity.

Hi! My children will also ask to go on trips to the stores because at the stores they have input in what I purchase i. e. food or treats or clothing or educational supplies. Pat
ReplyDeletePat they ask CONSTANTLY for stuff. I would rather NOT take them. they are still under the impression Americans are rich and will buy you wantever you want. our family does NOT work that way. it isnt even oh I wish I could have this its will you buy me this? how bout this? as they flit from one thing to the next. the entire store trip is no. no. no. no. no. no. no. no. no. no.
ReplyDeleteSounds like my daughter. From the moment she arrived home it seemed everyone we knew showered her with gifts and clothes and toys and and and...uggh! Until a few months ago our trips sounded like yours except that I only had one kids begging in my ear and you have many. :) It still happens here and there but one day we had enough and literally walked out of the store to the car and said, "Fine! If you can't be happy with what you have and what we give you then you will get nothing!" Then we went on to explain that we loved to buy her things if we could afford them but that when she whines and begs it takes the joy out of wanting to surprise her and willingly want to bless her with things she wants. We didn't buy anything directly "for her" for a few months. (Like no extra toys or games or shoes etc...toothpaste, brush etc and items needed for school are different) Then started in on small stuff, just the other day I got the biggest grin and a huge hug and thanks for giving her $1.25 to put into one of those toy/candy machines because she hasn't had anything in a while. Don't get me wrong...she still begs and its annoying but its getting better. :)
ReplyDeleteAgain, I think that type of thing might be very different for your situation because at one time or another one of your kids needs somthing because theyre all different ages and sizes. (needs and not wants..like new shoes or jackets) The good thing is...keep moving forward. One day they will be grown and telling their own kids the same thing. They will realize all of the many things you taught them and be appreciative then. :)
p.S hope you find the right place soon. In Bible school I always loved one saying that my professor would say and to this day believe every word. "God witholds the good to give you the better!" Keep looking, there is a perfect house out there for you and your family. :)

What stopped the "can I haves" in our house was the day my dh answered "SURE" to the common question. He said, "sure you can. Did you bring your money? Do you have enough $$$ with you?" Now they rarely ask and just say things like, "I'll have to save more money to get that." Or "I'll get that when I get birthday money from Grandma". I can now take 10 kids shopping all day long and never once hear any gimmes, can I haves, or anything. Much more pleasant :) I will hear, I'm hungry, when are we going to eat, if we are out all day though LOL
